Stress and Anxiety, A Way Out!

In the current pandemic situation, a silent killer has been on the out destroying many lives without mercy. Although present for many centuries, stress has not yet retired from our lives and seems more than ever at work in this covid-19 pandemic touching more and more victims.

How do we ensure it does not destroy us completely? Let us consider few causes of stress and some actions that can be taken to start reducing its grasp on our lives.

- Anxiety/Panic
A certain amount of unease is relatively normal in our lives. For example, feeling a bit uncomfortable or uncertain before taking a test, giving a public speech, or meeting new people. A small amount of this type of nervousness can be a good thing, it helps us being aware of dangers and motivates us to be better prepared for a presentation. There is another level of anxiety that can lead into panic or uncontrollable stress which is more damaging. In our generation, this type of stress is nurtured by news and especially bad news.

Here is a little advice that we apply in our family to help us combat the wrong type of anxiety and focus on things that matter more than stress situations we cannot control. We decided to reduce our TV news time and channel our energy on much healthier use of time like family time, nap time, friendship, and exercise.

- Finance-related stress
It is not a secret, finances can be a burden for a lot of people, especially those carrying a huge debt. Money fights are regularly cited as the second leading cause of divorce, behind infidelity. So the miracle formula is as simple as starting to put finances in order to help reduce a lot of stress, especially in young couples. We made the financial discussion a fun and regular discussion in our family.
Here are few resources for people living in Quebec and Rest of Canada that can help as well:

- Exhaustion
We live in a world that glorifies busyness at the expense of physical and mental health, quality time and real connections with our fellow humans. We run around like chicken without heads pursuing better careers, better salary, better lives. But it is a promise that never fulfills and that becomes an unending rat race. Why not take the time today to stop, relax and sip some great aromatic loose-leaf tea, read a book, laugh with friends and family? Try to envision your deathbed, what would you remember and what would really matter in that moment? Is it the house you live in or the memories you made in that house? Is it the amount you spent to give your kids better education or the time you spent with them? Is it the career that you work so passionate before forgoing vacation and family time or is it the beautiful moments you spent connecting with people that would matter?

“The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man! Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

So please commit today to live as if you were to die tomorrow!
